Alberta's energy tech industry continues to innovate at a record pace, developing industry-leading solutions that are being implemented around the world. That same spirit of collaboration was on display at the first-ever AbaData User Conference, where members of the AbaData community came together to not only to share real-world insights shaping the future of energy operations, but to make a measurable impact in their local communities.
With all ticket proceeds donated, AbaData users raised $30,000 for three local charities supporting children, families, and community programs across southern Alberta.
This impact was entirely the result of the generosity of the incredible industry professionals who use AbaData every day.
Following the conference, members of the AbaData team had the opportunity to visit each organization, deliver the cheques, tour facilities, and meet the people behind the programs.
Those visits reinforced the importance of community-led initiatives — and highlighted how support from local industries can translate directly into meaningful outcomes for families across the region.
The AbaData User Conference was designed as a space for collaboration, bringing together professionals working across Canada's oil & gas industry.
But from the outset, we were inspired by the work of Mike Hanson & David Morin and their 10in10in10 Marathon Challenge, and wanted this event to be about more than just knowledge sharing.
By committing all ticket proceeds to charity, $30,000 was raised, funds that are now being put to work by organizations making a real difference for children and families in Calgary and the surrounding area.
Funds raised through the conference are supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Calgary & Area as they launch their new 94 Doors Campaign, an initiative focused on matching children with long-term mentors.
Every $5,000 “opens a door” — helping one child be matched with a mentor and supported throughout the life of the program. The contributions from the AbaData community will help support two children and their mentors, creating lasting relationships that benefit families and communities for years to come.
"These funds allow us to create meaningful mentorship connections that change the trajectory of a child’s life."
- Ken Lima-Coelho, President and CEO
Funds raised by AbaData users for the Autism Aspergers Friendship Society of Calgary (AAFS) will help strengthen ongoing programming and create new opportunities for connection and inclusion.
AAFS provides an accepting environment for members of the Autism Community where they can cultivate friendships, develop social skills, and connect to the greater community. This funding will ensure their Calgary Clubhouse remains accessible and responsive to community needs.
"Contributions like this empower us to welcome new faces, ensure safe and inclusive spaces, and provide the community where lifelong friendships are built."
- Aaron De Souza, Acting Executive Director
KidSport Calgary & Area works to remove financial barriers to sport participation. With an average cost of approximately $350 to support one child, the funds raised through the conference have the potential to help dozens of children access organized sport.
For many families, that support can be the difference between sitting on the sidelines and being part of a team, fostering confidence, health, and belonging.
"Community support like this helps ensure more kids have a chance to play. As we continue to grow our capacity, it brings us closer to supporting even more kids and families through sport across Calgary and area."
- Kevin Webster, Chief Executive Officer
While we were proud to host the conference, the community impact belongs to our incredible users, partners, and sponsors who chose to make it happen. Their generosity demonstrates how professionals in our industry can extend their influence beyond the workplace and into the communities they serve.
It’s a testament to the fact that Canada’s energy and technology sectors continue to have a meaningful impact on their local communities.
