Table of Contents Tools Palette Buffer Buffer Print PDF The Buffer section lets the user set a radius either based on a point on the map, or from a line based on a high-pressure pipeline graphic or drawn line. Buffer From Point The Buffer From Point dialog allows for the creation of a radius buffer around a specific point. The buffer requires a distance to be entered in the Distance text box, and a Unit to be selected. The look of the buffer on the map can be adjusted using the fill and border colours and the thickness dropdown. Buffer From Point The Distance is the radius of the circle created when a point on the map is selected as the centrepoint of the buffer. When the map point is clicked, the buffer is created to visually show the radius on the map. The buffer will also automatically highlight any selectable entities so that a Select Report can be generated based on the buffer area. The example below shows all wells and pipelines within the buffer area highlighted in yellow. Buffer From Point on Map Buffer From Line The Buffer From Line dialog box still requires a distance radius and unit, but instead of clicking a point on the map, once the buffer size is set a high-pressure pipeline graphic or drawn line can be clicked on to create the buffer around the line. Buffer From Line on Map The example above shows a 500 metre buffer around a high-pressure pipeline, with all selectable objects within the buffer area automatically highlighted in yellow. If a buffer has already been created and another layer is turned on in the Map Display menu, objects in that layer will not automatically get highlighted. To highlight them, right-click anywhere within the buffer and click the Select Within text and all selectable objects touching the buffer will be highlighted. The Delete All button will remove all buffers from the Map window.
