Filter By Company

filter by company

The Filter By Company section at the top of the AbaData 2.0 window is used to filter oil and gas entities on the map based on licensee. To use the Filter By Company function, first click on the Filter By Company symbol. The section should expand, as in the following image.

To begin with, there will be no companies in any of the three boxes. To set the filter, type part or all of the company name you want to filter and click on the Search button. The system will find all companies that have the typed text as part of their name. The following example shows the results when the name Lightstream is typed.  It will often occur that the same company name will show up more than once.  This is because the filter is returning results from the Alberta Energy Regulator, BC Oil and Gas Commission and Saskatchewan Energy databases and the name may be the same in more than one database.

The user can select one or more of the results listed by using the mouse to highlight the companies that will be included in the filter.

Selecting companies

Once they are highlighted click on the Add Selected button to move them to the right side of the Filter By Company window. The following images display the window as this procedure is carried out.

Once the company(s) are moved to the right column, the map image may change depending on the ownership and/or associated licensee of Pipelines, Wells, Facilities and Spills & Complaints. If the Show map objects only for the Filtered Companies checkbox is selected, all Wells, Facilities, Pipelines and Spills & Complaints not associated with the selected companies will disappear from the map. If the checkbox is not selected, all properties will show on the map regardless of ownership. In that scenario, properties owned by the selected companies will show up normally (pipelines, spills, facilities in colour on the map) while properties owned by other (foreign) companies will show in grey.

The first map above shows an area filtered by company, but showing all companies’ properties.  In that scenario, filtered company properties show in colour, and foreign properties show in black or grey.  The map directly above shows the same location filtered by company with only company properties showing.

The Filter By Company also features checkboxes to allow the filtered company(s)’ properties to show at a provincial scale.  In the image below Lightstream pipelines are visible on the map even when zoomed out to a large scale.
